Privacy Policy

Overview

Ground State Mood is designed with privacy as the foundation. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data to any server.

This app works entirely offline, does not require an account or registration, and has no hidden subscriptions. If you choose to use optional reminders, those preferences are stored locally on your device and are used only to schedule local notifications. No reminder data is sent anywhere. If you choose to record an optional Voice Reflection, it is also stored locally, available only for the current reflection week, and removed automatically when a new reflection week begins or when you clear data via Settings → Clear all data.

Data We Store

Ground State Mood stores the following information locally on your device:

• Mood entries: Your selected mood or moods, any optional written note you choose to add, and the timestamp of each entry.
• Temporary Voice Reflections: An optional short audio recording attached to a mood entry. It is stored locally, retained only for the current reflection week, and removed automatically when a new reflection week begins.
• Reminder preferences: If you set up optional reminders, your chosen days and times are stored locally on your device. This information is not transmitted externally.
• App preferences: Settings like date format preferences and display options.

All of this data is stored only on your device using local storage. We have no access to it.

Voice Reflections and microphone access

Voice Reflections are an optional way to attach a short spoken reflection to a mood entry. The app only requests microphone access after you explicitly choose to record — it never listens continuously and never accesses the microphone in the background.

Recordings are stored locally on your device. They remain available only during the current reflection week and are automatically removed when a new reflection week begins. You can also remove them at any time via Settings → Clear all data.

• Recordings are never uploaded or transmitted to external servers
• Recordings are never transcribed
• Recordings are never analysed or scored
• Recordings are never used for diagnosis or behavioural profiling
• Recordings are never included in CSV exports or clipboard summaries

Notifications and reminders

Ground State Mood includes an optional reminder feature that can prompt you to log your mood at times you choose.

• Reminders are entirely optional. You can enable, adjust, or disable them at any time in Settings.
• If you enable reminders, the app will request permission to send notifications on your device.
• All reminders are scheduled and generated locally on your device. No internet connection is used.
• Notification permission is used only to deliver mood check-in reminders. It is not used for advertising, analytics, or any other purpose.
• No behavioural data is collected or inferred through your notification interactions.

Data Sharing

We do not share your data with anyone because we do not collect it.

The only time your data leaves your device is when you choose to export it, and only as text — Voice Reflection audio is never included:

• You can export your mood history as a CSV file using your device's share sheet. CSV exports are text-only.
• You can copy a 7-day summary to your clipboard if you choose to use that feature. Clipboard summaries are text-only.
• Voice Reflections are never included in exports or clipboard summaries, and audio never leaves your device through these features
• You control where you send, save, or paste exported or copied data
• We do not receive a copy of any exported or copied data

Third-Party Services

Ground State Mood does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

The app does not connect to the internet for any functionality. Optional reminders are delivered using your device's built-in notification system only — no third-party push notification services or behavioural tracking platforms are involved. Voice Reflection audio is never sent to any third-party service.

Website Analytics (Netlify Web Analytics)

We use Netlify Web Analytics to understand overall site activity (for example, page views and general traffic trends).

It is designed to work without cookies and without client-side tracking scripts.

Note: This applies to the website only; the Ground State Mood app does not use analytics or tracking.

Data Security

Your data security depends on your device's security:

• Use a strong passcode or biometric lock on your device
• Keep your device's operating system up to date
• Be cautious when exporting and sharing your data
• Temporary Voice Reflections are protected by the same on-device security as the rest of your data

Data Deletion

You can delete your data at any time from within the app.

• Go to Settings → Clear all data
• This permanently removes all mood entries, notes, current Voice Reflections, reminder preferences, and app preferences stored on your device
• Voice Reflections are also removed automatically whenever a new reflection week begins
• Ground State Mood does not store your mood data or Voice Reflections on external servers, so there is no server-side copy to delete, and expired Voice Reflections cannot be restored
